Put Your Trust In The Lord
The LORD told Elijah, “Go to the town of Zarephath in Sidon and live there. I’ve told a widow in that town to give you food.”
When Elijah came near the town gate of Zarephath, he saw a widow gathering sticks for a fire. “Would you please bring me a cup of water?” he asked. As she left to get it, he asked, “Would you also please bring me a piece of bread?”
The widow answered, “In the name of the living LORD your God, I swear that I don’t have any bread. All I have is a handful of flour and a little olive oil. I’m on my way home now with these few sticks to cook what I have for my son and me. After that, we will starve to death.”
Elijah said, “Everything will be fine. Do what you said. Go home and fix something for you and your son. But first, please make a small piece of bread and bring it to me. The LORD God of Israel has promised that your jar of flour won’t run out and your bottle of oil won’t dry up before he sends rain for the crops.”
The widow went home and did exactly what Elijah had told her. She and Elijah and her family had enough food for a long time. The LORD kept the promise that his prophet Elijah had made, and she did not run out of flour or oil.
1 Kings 17:8-16
Much talk is going around about possible food shortages in the near future. Whether these rumors hold true or not does not change the fact that Jesus Christ is in control of everything. He is our Lord and Savior and we should look to Him for all of our needs and our protection.
This passage in the book of First Kings is just one example of many in the Holy Bible of how the Lord provides for all those who obey Him. Elijah was obedient and a faithful servant to the Lord and the widow was obedient in helping Elijah, therefore God blessed her with provisions for her, her son, and Elijah.
Though the rest of the world may descend into chaos, we can lean on the promises of God and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that He will never leave us or forsake us.
Jesus’ eleven disciples went to a mountain in Galilee, where Jesus had told them to meet him. They saw him and worshiped him, but some of them doubted. Jesus came to them and said: I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth! Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to do everything I have told you. I will be with you always, even until the end of the world.
Matthew 28:16-20
Jesus promised to always be with us, even to the end of the ages. Therefore we shall place our faith and our hope in Him and Him alone. We shall not place our hope and faith in governments, political leaders, kings, queens, emperors, dictators. doctors, science, medicine, or any other form of “hope”. There is only one hope in this world and that is Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, Son of the Living God. Amen.
When you are tired and weary, call on the Name of Jesus Christ and ask for the peace and strength that only He can provide. He is ready and willing for those who turn to Him. May Jesus Christ be with you always and guide you on your path to eternal life. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
